A session with Shiatsu & Therapeutic Massage by Darcey may include a variety of all modalities & techniques in Darcey's "toolbox" that will be discussed day of session depending on client's needs to optimize care. Sessions may include:
Cupping
Through negative pressure applied with suction, cupping helps increase circulation, relieve pain, help breakup scar tissue and overall relieve tension. A must try for the chronically injured and those with muscle tightness.
Hot Stones & Rice Bag
Smooth, flat stones that have been heated will be applied to area of concern to help relax and ease muscle tension or glided down muscles strains for complete warmth and relaxation. Weighted and heated rice bag will be put on areas of concern to bring warmth and circulation to area.
Therapeutic/Deep Tissue Massage
The general term that describes any type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and work on a specific problem—such as a carpal tunnel, frozen shoulder or tennis elbow. People tend to assume therapeutic massage means deep tissue massage, and that they will get a very strong massage. But this is not always the case. Deep tissue massage is great at breaking down scar tissue and getting your blood circulating, but it may not be what you need day of massage. Darcey's therapeutic massage includes Cross Fiber Friction technique applied to trigger point areas to breakdown scare tissue and allow tissue repair, Myofascial Release techniques, deep ironing, kneading and effleurage.
Shiatsu Anma Massage
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage that means finger (Shi) pressure (Atsu). Shiatsu Anma is based on both the theory of acupressure energetics originating from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and massage techniques of Japanese origin. TCM is an ancient form of healing based in specific points on meridians throughout the body that are bilaterally symmetrical on each side of midline and correspond to major organs. Through a variety of soothing, kneading, pressure to specific acu-points, vibrating, stretching and exercising the client is left feeling pain relief along with an overall lightness and balance. Specifically Shiatsu Anma may be preformed on a Shaitsu Table that is lower to the ground and wider to allow room for both client and therapist for pressure, exercises and stretches.
Thai Yoga Massage
Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient form of healing based on Yoga and Ayurveda and appeared in the temples in Thailand. The practitioner guides the client through a series of yoga postures, while palming and thumbing along the body’s energetic (‘Sen’) lines and pressure points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boosts the immune system and balances the body energetically.
***Traditionally both Shiatsu and Thai Yoga are preformed on a floor mat with client wearing loose fitted clothes***
Prenatal Massage
Prenatal massage is a wonderful way to relax and increase circulation during pregnancy which helps with pressure and pain during labor and throughout pregnancy. Prenatal massage uses mainly Swedish massage technique, which focuses on long, sweeping strokes with only minimal pressure applied to the body. Deep tissue pressure, which is common in other therapeutic massages, won't be used as it could potentially be harmful to mother or baby until mother is ready to deliver!
